Founder, Artist & Designer
Gabriel Covarrubias is the founder of Paper Waves Books, a Sydney-based artist, designer and publisher originally from Mexico City. His practice spans Mexico, China and Australia, bringing together painting, calligraphy, design and multilingual publishing. Through Paper Waves Books, he develops collaborative projects connecting poetry, visual art and languages.
Partner & China Operations Director
Based in Gansu, China, Wang Xia oversees print production, supplier coordination and logistics for Paper Waves Books. She holds a Master’s degree in Design from Shaanxi Normal University and brings experience in advertising, layout and production. Her work ensures that each book’s design and material details are carried through faithfully into print.
Translator
Based in Gansu, China, Dou Hong contributes to translation at Paper Waves Books. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Translation and a Master’s degree in Education from Shaanxi Normal University, has passed TEM-8 and holds a CATTI Level 3 Translation certificate. Her practice focuses on accurate, natural translations that respect context.
